Sardar Street Inauguration at Maninagar
On 2nd October 2014, to give a boost to the ‘Swachchha Bharat Swastha Bharat’ move and show its respect on the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation and other various organizations joined hands and initiated a move called ‘My Own Street’.
Looking at the model and applying the procedures followed in the sample street named ‘Gandhi Street’ in the Bodakdev area of Ahmedabad, Mr. Keyur Parikh, councilor, ManiNagar took the voluntary work in his hands and by following the guidelines of the ‘My Own Street’ he started working towards making a model street at Jawahar Chowk Mani Nagar. He started his work by organizing an oath taking ceremony held at ManiNagar. The street is sponsored by Sambhaav Media Ltd and street is cleaned, white washed and decorated with society name boards and street maps. Plast India Foundation have agreed to provide the dustbins at highly subsidized rates to all the residents of the street. Another co-initiator to the move ‘Lets Recycle’ has agreed to collect all the dry waste from the streets on bi-weekly basis and in return pay for it to the respective societies for their developments. Students of H. A. Commerce College joined in as volunteers for the program. The residents of the society agreed to keep the street clean, follow the procedures suggested as per ‘My Own street’ concept. They are now looking forward to make the street as a ‘Zero waste street’
On 23rd November 2014, Ahmedabad city mayor Ms. Minaxiben Patel inaugurated the street and named it as ‘Sardar Street’. Other dignitaries like deputy mayor Mr. Bipin Sikka, former mayor Mr. Aseet Vora, MLA Suresh Patel and many others graced the event.
